Private Physio Treatment
At your initial appointment with a physiotherapist at our West Midlands & Worcestershire practices, we will begin, firstly, by taking a full case history. This enables us to evaluate your injury and, importantly, to understand the factors that may be contributing to it. Normally we ask patients to remove some of their clothing during the examination and treatment. Therefore, you may choose to bring a pair of shorts and a t-shirt to change into before your assessment if it makes you feel more comfortable.
You are also always free to bring along a friend or relative with you to act as your chaperone. Following the case history, your physiotherapist may conduct further medical, orthopedic, or neurological tests. They will explain the aim of each test and hence the relevance of these as they proceed. Finally, your physiotherapist will explain the most appropriate treatment for you. They will also give you an indication of how many treatments you are likely to need to fully recover.
"THE FRIENDLY AND RELAXED ATMOSPHERE WILL MAKE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE AS WELL AS CARED FOR FROM YOUR VERY FIRST VISIT. "

Meet the team

Meet Andrew
Osteopath and Founder
Andrew is the founder and director of The Guildhall Practice. With more than 30 years of experience, he is a dedicated osteopath. He graduated from The European School of Osteopathy in 1993 and opened The Guildhall Practice in Birmingham the same year.
His background in athletics, along with the inevitable injuries, led him to seek treatment. He found osteopathy to be the most effective approach. This experience sparked his passion for osteopathy’s holistic focus on treating each patient as a unique individual.
In addition to his work at The Guildhall Practice, Andrew has worked for the F.A. at St George's Park, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Birchfield Harriers, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and Birmingham REP Theatre.
Though he briefly retired, covering maternity leave reignited his love for patient care. He has been fully committed ever since.
Today, Andrew manages the physical therapy team and leads the expansion of new medical services. These include CQC registration for diagnostic scans and private GP services.

Meet Mark
Acupuncturist
Mark is a skilled and experienced acupuncturist who graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in 2004. He spent five years as a lecturer on their degree course, sharing his profound knowledge of this ancient healing art. Traditional acupuncture focuses on the connection between mind and body, promoting wellness by balancing the body's Qi (energy) to support natural healing.
Mark’s journey into acupuncture began as a patient. He experienced firsthand its profound benefits. His passion for the practice was further sparked by his background in martial arts, including Goju Ryu Karate and Qi Gong. He was fascinated to discover that many striking points in karate align with acupuncture points used for healing. This realisation drove his desire to explore the discipline deeply.
In addition to acupuncture, Mark uses manual techniques such as acupressure and massage. He completed a postgraduate diploma in sports injury massage in 2022. The training enhanced his ability to address musculoskeletal issues. By combining these techniques with guided breathing and stretching, Mark aims to stimulate the body’s healing potential.
With over 20 years of experience, Mark has helped patients manage various conditions, including migraines, fibromyalgia, sinusitis, and musculoskeletal problems. He also specialises in supporting women through assisted fertility treatments. His acupuncture work aids their journey toward better health and well-being.

What Should I Expect On My Initial Physiotherapy Appointment ?
The physiotherapy consultation and the treatment process will last between 45 minutes and an hour. Importantly, it is always our intention to assess, diagnose, and commence treatment within this initial consultation.
At your initial physiotherapy appointment, we will first begin by taking a full case history. This enables us to evaluate your injury and to understand the factors that may be contributing to it. Please bring along any information you may have relating to medication, the results of clinical tests, scans, or x-rays that you have had in order to update our records. Having taken the case history, your physiotherapist will normally carry out a series of tests. These tests are particularly useful in determining a more accurate diagnosis.
What Techniques Do Physiotherapists Use ?
Physio treatment involves hands-on soft tissue massage, as well as stretching and strengthening techniques. However, treatment is different for every patient and depends on your age, fitness, and diagnosis.
We aim to identify potential areas of injury risk, as well as set specific exercise routines for improvement in terms of mobility and strength. Your physio can provide a detailed exercise program for you using Physiotec, an interactive software app. This allows us to prescribe specific exercises designed to meet your individual needs. This program gives you detailed instructions, photographs, and videos, which are invaluable to your rehabilitation.
Do I Need A GP Referral For Physiotherapy ?
No, you do not require a referral from your GP or specialist to book an appointment with a physiotherapist. However, you may require one if you wish to claim through your health insurance policy. We suggest that you contact your health insurance provider to find out their protocol for your policy. Your physiotherapist will occasionally refer you to your GP or to a specialist for further investigations.

What Should I wear For My Physiotherapy Treatment ?
It is important to us that all of our patients feel comfortable during their examination and treatment. Patients either undress to their underwear or will often bring shorts and a sports top. Your physiotherapist will do their best to respect your modesty at all times, and it’s important that you communicate with them whenever you feel uncomfortable.
