Meet Mark
Acupuncturist
Mark is a skilled and experienced acupuncturist who graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in 2004. He spent five years as a lecturer on their degree course, sharing his profound knowledge of this ancient healing art. Traditional acupuncture focuses on the connection between mind and body, promoting wellness by balancing the body’s Qi (energy) to support natural healing.
Mark’s journey into acupuncture began as a patient. He experienced firsthand its profound benefits. His passion for the practice was further sparked by his background in martial arts, including Goju Ryu Karate and Qi Gong. He was fascinated to discover that many striking points in karate align with acupuncture points used for healing. This realisation drove his desire to explore the discipline deeply.
In addition to acupuncture, Mark uses manual techniques such as acupressure and massage. He completed a postgraduate diploma in sports injury massage in 2022. The training enhanced his ability to address musculoskeletal issues. By combining these techniques with guided breathing and stretching, Mark aims to stimulate the body’s healing potential.
With over 20 years of experience, Mark has helped patients manage various conditions, including migraines, fibromyalgia, sinusitis, and musculoskeletal problems. He also specialises in supporting women through assisted fertility treatments. His acupuncture work aids their journey toward better health and well-being.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM ACUPUNCTURE?
Our approach is to create a good rapport with the patient to make them feel relaxed and comfortable, take a thorough medical history and implement the best course of treatment for their symptoms and their situation.
Acupuncture treatment involves having very fine needles gently inserted into acupuncture points that help the healing process. Sometimes, in the case of muscular problems, for example, the points selected are where the pain is felt. The acupuncturist may also select other points around the body to help holistically with the body’s healing process.
Acupuncture benefits
Acupuncture needling generally feels mild, like a dull ache. Patients often describe a feeling of very deep relaxation after an acupuncture treatment, so it’s best not to plan anything too hectic afterwards, although driving and walking are fine. Sometimes a stand-alone acupuncture treatment will suffice for conditions such as muscular pain, especially if it is used in conjunction with massage and a post-treatment exercise programme the practitioner may recommend. For more chronic conditions such as migraines, a course of treatment will be needed. The acupuncturist will talk through the best treatment plan with the patient so they can be fully on board with the treatment process.

Acupuncture – FAQS
What should I expect from acupuncture?
Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific acupuncture points on the body. These points help stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. For conditions like muscular pain, the acupuncturist may target areas where pain is felt but may also select other points for a more holistic approach.

How does acupuncture help with muscular pain?
Acupuncture for muscular pain typically involves inserting needles into the affected area, which helps to reduce tension and improve circulation. This can provide relief from pain, especially when used alongside other treatments like massage or stretching exercises recommended by your acupuncturist.
How long does an acupuncture treatment take?
A typical acupuncture session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. Your acupuncturist will assess your condition and determine the number of needles needed, which can vary depending on the treatment area and your specific needs.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture is generally a painless treatment. The needles used are very fine, and you may feel a mild sensation, like a dull ache, when they are inserted. Many patients describe a feeling of relaxation during and after their treatment.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required depends on the condition being treated. For acute issues, like muscular pain, a few sessions may suffice. Chronic conditions, such as migraines, often require a course of treatments. Your acupuncturist will work with you to create a tailored treatment plan.
Can acupuncture help with stress or anxiety?
Yes, acupuncture can be very effective in managing stress and anxiety. The treatment promotes relaxation and helps balance the body’s energy flow, which can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and improve overall emotional well-being.
How should I prepare for an acupuncture session?
It’s best to come to your acupuncture session well-rested and avoid heavy meals right before your treatment. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to acupuncture points on your body. It’s also helpful to be hydrated before your treatment.
Can acupuncture help with migraines?
Acupuncture is known to help relieve the frequency and intensity of migraines. The treatment works by stimulating specific points that can help reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and balance the body’s energy, addressing the root causes of migraines.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes, acupuncture is a safe and well-established treatment when performed by a trained and licensed professional. The needles used are very fine, and the procedure is minimally invasive. Most patients experience no side effects, and any discomfort is typically mild and brief.
